Tesla stock was recently up 2.2%, with the company on track to close with a market cap above $900 billion for the first time since September. The move follows the news that the company built its first Cybertruck, as well as price cuts from Ford on its Lightning electric pickup.
Ford’s shares were down 5%. Shares of some other EV companies, including Nikola and Rivian, fell in early trading Monday. Lucid Group stock rose more than 3%.
Tesla stock closed Friday just above $281, up nearly 130% this year. It was off 31% from its record high, set in November 2021, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
U.S. electric-vehicle sales rose 50% in the first half of the year.
