Intel on a mission to meet a ‘net-zero goal”
Intel embraces sustainability!
by pledging to completely eliminate emissions from the chip making centers by addressing emissions of highly-polluting gases, that currently are essential to the process
Intel Corp. is planning fundamental changes to computer-chip manufacturing to meet its net-zero goal. The semiconductor giant, said it aims to reach net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2040.
Intel’s emissions have continued to rise in recent years as demand for computing power has soared.
However, direct emissions over the past decade were 75% lower than they would have been if Intel hadn’t improved its carbon intensity through efficiency gains from renewable energy, the company said.

Intel will continue to invest in those areas, according to Todd Brady, the company’s chief sustainability officer.
Mr. Brady indicated that Intel plans to launch a cross-industry R&D effort to prevent the release of chemicals and put alternatives into widespread use.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, up to 80% of the chemicals used in semiconductor manufacturing can be released into the air
“The continued availability and use of these gases is considered to be critical to the future success of the [semiconductor] industry,” the EPA says on its website.
Last year, one of Intel’s fiercest rival Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, said it would reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
TSMC spokesperson said the company would explore eco friendly alternatives and invest in research and development.
