The major U.S. stock averages were down around midday Thursday, as investors took in jobless claims and earnings reports.

S&P 500: -0.9% Dow industrials: -0.7% and Nasdaq Composite: -1.2%

The benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury yield was at 3.397%, from 3.374% on Thursday.

Alcoa: Shares of the aluminum producer were down nearly 6% in premarket trading. Late Wednesday, Alcoa reported a big drop in revenue due to lower prices, although its quarterly loss was narrower than analysts had expected.

Discover Financial: Discover stock fell more than 7% premarket, after an earnings report showed the company’s customers are increasingly falling behind on payments on loans and credit cards.

Procter & Gamble: The consumer-goods giant reported lower quarterly profit and declining sales volumes as the rising costs of Tide detergent and other staples prompted consumers to cut back on purchases at the end of 2022. P&G stock retreated more than 3% premarket.

AMD and Nvidia: The two semiconductor stocks came under pressure premarket, falling 1.8% and 2.5% respectively.

Netflix, PPG Industries: The streaming heavyweight and the maker of paints and coatings are scheduled to issue earnings after markets close.
