Trending stocks today are:

Newmont: The Colorado-based gold miner made a $17 billion, all-stock offer to buy Australia’s Newcrest Mining. Newmont shares fell more than 6% premarket, while the target company’s shares jumped more than 9% in Sydney.

Catalent: Stock jumped 25% premarket, after Bloomberg reported that Danaher had expressed takeover interest in the company.

Dell: The computer company said it is cutting about 5% of its workforce. Dell shares gained 1.9% ahead of the opening bell.

Public Storage:  stock fell more than 4% premarket, while Life Storage stock was quoted 12% higher.

Carlyle: The private equity giant is expected to unveil investment-banking veteran Harvey Schwartz its new chief executive, The Wall Street Journal reported. Mr. Schwartz most recently served as co-president of Goldman Sachs.

Tyson Foods: The meat company said it made net income of $316 million in the latest quarter, down from $1.12 billion a year earlier, as costs climbed and beef prices fell. Tyson shares fell more than 5% premarket.

Pinterest: The social-media company is expected to post earnings after markets close, as is Activision Blizzard.
