Twitter, to introduce the edit button

Twitter Inc. is developing a feature that will allow users to edit tweets after they have been posted,

the company stated.

The announcement comes after Elon Musk revealed a 9.2% stake in the social-media company and asked his followers in a poll if they wanted the feature.

The edit function has been one of the most requested features among Twitter users for some time, the company said.

“People want to be able to fix written mistakes, or typos” Mr. Sullivan said, adding that the company was aware such a function could be also misused.

  • Musk’s poll attracted 4.4 million votes.

Twitter’s team denied that the move was related to the poll, but Parag Agrawal, the company’s CEO, retweeted it

Mr. Musk,

who has been a fan and a critic of Twitter, disclosed a large stake in the company, making him one of its biggest shareholders.

The surprise move sent Twitter’s stock up 28%,  the largest one-day percentage gain on record for the company.

Twitter’s consideration of an edit button comes as other social-media companies, including Meta Platforms Inc and Instagram, allow users to change their posts.
